JASON JENINGS has a fantastic release out on the HAMMARICA label ‘CHAOS’ which was also remixed by BASSROCK. Jason now has a new upcoming release on the Hammarica label called ‘RAVERS’. Therefore, it was time for a chat!

You’ve released a stunning track on the Hammarica label, including a great Bassrock remix, and more to come in the coming months. Could you describe your personal style when it comes to producing?
I try to produce the kind of music that I love to listen to. I’d best describe my personal style as a mix between Diplo & TJR. I like big bass-lines and a funky, electro feel.

The past few years EDM blew up world wide. We’ve seen a lot of crazy things happening, but in your opinion, what do you feel the EDM world really needs right now?
The EDM world has undergone so many changes in the last 10 years. Right now I think we need to keep forefront in our minds (as Producers & Promoters), that the whole point of the scene is supposed to be a positive vibe. It negatively affects the scene as a whole, when people put out negativity towards others, for instance putting down other people’s tracks, their sets, etc.. The music is supposed to be the thing that unites us, as a community, and we should all be supportive of each other.

You recently released a video that shows some behind the scenes material. How did that come about?
July 1st is obviously a big day in Canada (Canada Day) and I was super excited that my hometown asked me to head-line a beachfront event that night. One of my good buddies, Kareem Hassanien of Occupied Artists, specializes in video production and he was stoked to do some behind the scenes footage for me. He’s done work for companies like “Palm Bay”, “Moore’s Clothing” and lots of other big names. He’s incredibly talented. The event was packed and it was a good time had by all. This video for my track: “Chaos”, was shot here at Sauble Beach, Ontario, right on the shores of Lake Huron.

Do you have any rituals before a gig/DJ set?
Rituals? Um, yeah, I’m kind of superstitious. For the night of my set, I carry a penny in my pocket with the year I was born on it. I’m also kinda O.C.D. I have to double-check everything–multiple times, this usually results in me talking to myself. I’m constantly running through my track list & making last minute changes to it, if I need to. Last but not least, I have to have a brand new t-shirt for the set.

You recently hooked up with new management. Tell us more.
I’m a big believer in surrounding yourself with a great team. For the PR end of things, I’m very fortunate to be represented by Hammarica . On the Management side of things, I’m very excited to have just hooked up with an amazing new Manager and Marketing Director. My new Manager has over 20 years experience dealing in broadcasting & promotion. He has excellent contacts industry-wide and we’re looking forward to many exciting opportunities.

pacifier guyYou have an interesting background, which includes being a promoter some years ago. What was the craziest thing that you’ve seen during those years?
In the early days of the “rave” scene, I saw some pretty wild stuff. Stuff I wish I could actually forget (lol). I’ll tell you some of the more tame and funny stuff though. One night I saw a guy pick up a stick, hold it to his head and start talking to it…like it was his cell phone.  Another night I saw a 300 pound muscle head, fist-pumpin’ with a giant soother in his mouth. That was scary & disturbing (haha).

Which Youtube video always makes you laugh?
There’s so many that make me laugh so hard watching Tosh.0. The one that sticks out the most would be the little kid that goes to the dentist. Then he’s wasted on laughing gas and talking funny stuff in the back of his Dad’s van.

Cracks me up every time.

Share one of your DJ tricks and tell how it’s done.
Okay, here’s one of my tricks. When I’m DJ’ing, I cue up the track, count it out the four bars in my head, and then I go back and forth with the cue & play button to get it beat matched, then release it.

Is there anything else you would like to mention?
I’ve been busy in the studio making lots of new tracks this summer and I’m super excited for the new releases coming up. My new track: “RAVERS” will be released on Hammarica and will be available Exclusively on Beatport soon! Stay tuned for that & more!

You can also check out my show: “Full Blast Radio”, on PARTY103.com (New York) at 4pm every 2nd & 4th Wednesday and VENDJS.com (Venezuela) each Monday at 8:30pm. New show on each one, so tune in and get blasted!
